Email: edwina@edwinadolls.com

Class Description

In this workshop, Edwina will show you how to create an exquisite little (4 x 6”) felted bag. She will show you how to layer the merino fiber and blend in the elements that will give the felt its unique colour and texture, taking it beyond wool felt to your very own piece of fibre art. Three-dimensional felt shapes will be created to add further texture to the piece. Embellishing with beads and silk cocoons will ensure each bag is unique.

Techniques to be Covered

• wet felting with merino wool
• needle felting
• working with silk cocoons
• beading
• enhancing the felt with decorative fibres

• Award winning doll artist, Edwina Sutherland is originally from England, where she apprenticed in Haute Couture. She immigrated to Canada to pursue the fine art of theatre costuming and never looked back. In her Studio, Edwina works in both cloth and wool fibre. She has been teaching for 20 years. In the doll and fibre world, she teaches both online and in person. Edwina also designs cloth doll patterns, which she sells through her website and other online stores. Edwina says that her fascination with textiles and form are what leads her on her doll-making journey. She seeks to explore story and character through the art she creates and to bring that story to the viewer, who may see their own story within the piece. Edwina’s doll and fibre artistry has been included in such publications as Soft Dolls & Animals, Dolls, Dolls, Art Doll Quarterly and Canadian Creations as well as the 2006 book The Best of Soft Dolls & Animals. She has exhibited her art locally and at the national level.
